Established in Underdale, South Australia in 1971 by Sam Pollina and Lorenzo Bonifacio, Metro Joinery has grown to become one of Adelaide’s largest and most well-regarded manufacturers and installers of bespoke architectural and commercial joinery and wall panelling. Whilst it is commonly assumed our name stems from the fact we are located within the confines of Adelaide’s metropolitan area, the name “Metro Joinery” is actually derived from the Italian word for tape measure – “il metro” – a nod to the Italian roots of Metro Joinery’s founders.
Beginning with only modest tooling, Metro Joinery specialised in solid timber cabinetry, wardrobes and furniture such as dining sets, bedroom suites and even lounge suites – much of it featuring ornate carving and moulds. Local species of timber such as Tasmanian Oak and Red Cedar were used alongside exotic species such as Brazilian Mahogany, Nyatoh and Pacific Maple. Eventually the furniture aspect of the business was wound down and focus was shifted towards commercial and domestic built in joinery such as kitchens, laundries, wardrobes – and in the commercial aspect, desks, shelving, tea points and the like.
